Program Associate
Jeanne Ferguson joined the Butler Institute for Families in 2012 as the Project Manager for the New York State Family Assessment Response (FAR) initiative, a differential response to reports of child maltreatment in New York.
Ms. Ferguson brings to Butler Institute 34 years of experience in Child Protective Services (CPS) with the Dane County Department of Human Services in Madison, Wisconsin, with 26 of those years as a direct services supervisor. While with Dane County, she supervised Ongoing Services, Intake, and Initial Assessment in CPS, as well as designed and supervised the County’s Reunification Team and their Family Group Conferencing program. Ms. Ferguson was previously with the American Humane Association in Denver.
Ms. Ferguson was a Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Social Work for 15 years, teaching courses in Child Abuse and Neglect, Child Welfare, and Social Work with the Family. She also provided training for the Southern Child Welfare Training Partnership out of the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for six years, training CPS staff in the southern half of Wisconsin. She developed curriculum and delivered training in Safety in CPS; Child Welfare Services; Separation, Placement, and Permanence; and Family Group Conferencing.
Ms. Ferguson received both her BSSW and MSSW from the School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is currently a Senior Preceptor for the School. She holds an advanced practice license to practice Social Work in Wisconsin, where she continues to live.
