Course Description:
Building off of the FAR Process and Practice training that county staff receive during their implementation of the FAR approach, this one-day training is intended to orient child protection staff on the core principles, values, and practices of solution-focused practice in child welfare, as well as how this practice aligns with FAR. This training will prepare caseworkers and supervisors for engaging families in a solution-focused approach within casework practice, particularly a family assessment response.
At the completion of this one-day training, participants will demonstrate the following competencies:
- The participant is aware of how to use solution-focused practice within his or her casework practice with children and families.
- The participant knows the process and techniques for solution-building with children and families.
- The participant is able to demonstrate how to overcome resistance to relationship building with families through the use of solution-focused strategies.
- The participant is aware of how to maintain solution-focused practice even in crisis situations with families.

Target Audience:
This training is by INVITATION ONLY and is mandatory for all NY FAR workers and supervisors. It is also recommend that agency managers and administrators and additional CPS workers and agency stakeholders attend where applicable.

There is no charge to attend this training, but attendance is by INVITATION ONLY.
